Solange Knowles was a seasoned music business veteran even before releasing her debut album. She was a singer/songwriter behind the scenes of numerous major releases and wanted to come out with a concept album love letter to everything she loved as both a maker of music and a fan of music. The challenge was balancing her concept ideas with the needs of the label. That was our job.

Her album SoL-AngeL & The Hadley St. Dreams was an album of multiple influences and a visual nod to the other worldly illustrated albums of the 70s. It had to balance required photography with retro ideas updated just enough to not be dated, but not so much they missed the point entirely.

I had my hand in developing the drippy psychedelic illustrations that overtly and subversively dominated every design item involved with her album and the campaign and collateral supporting it.   I am proud to call it my favorite project I have ever worked on.
